jekyll: If I ever find a solution, I will certainly post it back here. I wouldn't want anyone to be frustrated regarding this problem. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure it out. Also, Cavan looked at my WB and for some reason, SKS6 is recognizing my WB as being a UIS1 type of skin and not a UIS2 skin. I don't understand why this should be as I started my WB SKS6 as an "advanced WB," just like my first WB that I made last month.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I still haven't figured out how to fix this problem. Also tried to start a brand new WB and import my pngs into the new WB. But the ugly shadow remains! I will keep at it and post here if I find an answer to this mysterious problem. Thanks again for all your help.

canmandeco: Thanks for your suggestion. I tried this and it did not work. I posted this problem in the SKS6 feedback forum hoping that maybe a Stardock programmer might see it and might have a "technical" (e.g., a SKS6 bug) reason as to why I cannot get rid of the default OS shadow around the Start Panel. Anyway, thank you to you too for stopping by to help. Much appreciated!

I had an issue with one of my skins being seen as a UIS1 skin by SKS5. Here's what I did to correct it (not sure if it will fix your issue but it may be worth a try)

In SKS6,clean the skin (Tools/Clean Skin), then make a WBA package (File/Make WBA Package), switch to a different skin in WBconfig, then delete your problem skin in WBconfig, then find the WBA package that was created earlier and doubleclick it.

This will put your skin back into WBconfig; change to that skin and then try the settings as noted above to turn off the shadow.

I had put in a support ticket for the above problem, but was told SKS5 wouldn't be developed any longer (although it was SKS6 that apparently changed my skin to a UIS1) so there was never any investigation into why SKS6 'made' my skin into a UIS1.

There is no good reason to start an XP skin in SKS6.

I know its work but try STARTING the skin in SKS5.(either from scratch or from another skin that already works right)

pictoratus: Thank you for the suggestion. I tried your suggestion exactly as you said and unfortunately, it did not work for me. The ugly default OS shadow around the Start Panel remains and my WB is still being recognized by SKS5 as a UIS1 skin. I truly appreciate your time and effort trying to help me solve this problem. IR: Thank you for your suggestion. As you can see from the screenshot below, it worked! I guess Skin Studio 5 is the better way to go when starting a WB. Thank you again for all your help and for taking time out for a newbie like me. Your assistance was very appreciated!

Glad to see you were able to find a work around. Yet another reason to continue to use SKS5.

SKS6 for Vista...5 for XP.

Hi guys, I have now got the same problem but in a vista skin all was well with the start panel till i put the taskbar together then i got the same os shadow.... i've checked all the margins and everything.... but it won't go......

Any idears would be great....
