What am I doing wrong?
Published on April 17, 2008 By alphabyte In Skinning

I am trying to put together the start menu for my next WB, and I noticed this ugly black border all around my start menu (seen on the righthand side of the start menu in the screenshot).

I have blur enabled and disabled the OS shadow.  I am using Skin Studio 6.00.003 and WB 6.09[g].[b].135.  (Also, I have tried this in the latest non-beta version of WB6 and this black border is still there.)

I have tried playing with many of the settings in Skin Studio 6, but I cannot get rid of that annoying border.  What am I doing wrong?

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!

It was nice reading how everyone was willing to help out - Priceless!

I'm sure many other people will benefit from the help provided in this thread.

It is sadden me that Robbie_Boy did not find it worthy to share how he/she managed to solve his/her problem. Take it to the grave Not right!

Beside that I'm very pleased

This is an old thread but some may come up against this problem - i know i did for a few annoying hours

This solution may not help everyone but ill give it anyway

I solved it by making a new substyle in the blind based on my xp substyle that already existed (which didnt have the annoying line shadow)   I then simply reinported the vista graphics onto the new substyle and copied and pasted the code over and its all perfect again

Delete the old main style and make the new vista substyle the main style

You may need to already have a working substyle for this to work but it may help some

Everyone is correct but here is the problem sks 5 &6 both make back up files

So disable the feature in 6 HideShadows=0

save and apply

Now go to the windowblinds folder for this skin open the folder (set veiw to thumbnails)you will find a file called XPStuff.xp(it will have a skinstudio icon)

this is your good file

now you will find another file XPStuff.xp~ (it will look just like a normal file folder the squiggley line denotes a copy)

now delete the XPStuff.xp~

now open in SKS5 and enable(HideShadows=1)

save and apply

it will be gone ,open in SKS6 and continue building

Note when you start a skin if you start in 5 make this your first change save and apply then open in 6 you wont have this problem again!

It can be done in note pad but I recomend this way unless you are comfortale directly editing code!

Note there could be more than 1 backup of this file if so delete all XPStuff.xp~ (it will look just like a normal file folder the squiggley line denotes a copy)

you only need the 1 with the SKS icon w/o the squiggley line

This will work I am sure !

Avman this seems quite a thorough fix to the problem - though i havent tested it as mine works now - Is Skin studio 5 still easy enough to find?

Is there a sticky for all these weird little problems and their solutions?
