What am I doing wrong?
Published on April 17, 2008 By alphabyte In Skinning

I am trying to put together the start menu for my next WB, and I noticed this ugly black border all around my start menu (seen on the righthand side of the start menu in the screenshot).

I have blur enabled and disabled the OS shadow.  I am using Skin Studio 6.00.003 and WB 6.09[g].[b].135.  (Also, I have tried this in the latest non-beta version of WB6 and this black border is still there.)

I have tried playing with many of the settings in Skin Studio 6, but I cannot get rid of that annoying border.  What am I doing wrong?

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated!

jekylll: Thanks for your suggestion. However, I have disabled the default OS shadow and this is still happening to me. Any other ideas?

In SKS 6, go to the start menu section > top Part > extra settings > Hide shadow on Start Menu. You need to enable it...it is disabled by default.

jazzymjr: Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I went into the "Top Part," then to "Extra Settings," and then "Hide shadow on startmenu" and set that checkbox to enabled. Even with this enabled, I am still seeing this ugly unwanted border.

I am running XP and started this skin using the latest version of Skin Studio 6.

The only other thing I can think of is to open the skin in SKS 5, and disable the shadow from there. Make sure you save the change before you open the blind again in SKS 6.

maybe add ´HideShadows=1´ in the code editor? Never tried that in the start panel...

jekylll: Yeah, I thought about that as well. I will go back and check my pngs to make sure there are not "stray" pixels that are creating that shadow. Thanks again for your tips.

I haven't verified this but Cavan told me that setting in SKS6 did nothing ... yet.

Try setting it in SKS5 ... I know that works; it's how I've done it.

I had the same problem in SKS6. I had to enable it in SKS6, then open it in SKS5, and disable it there. It will stay put then, even after you reopen it in SKS6.

Still just eye candy. (

alphabyte; complete your skin in SKS6, once done and happy then open in SKS5, from tree menu select Start Panel, then set Hide shadow to enabled and save.
